redT Homes is calling for greater accountability, transparency, and reliable timelines from Xcel Energy.
redT Sues Xcel Energy
The Denver Post reports that redT Homes filed suit against Xcel Energy on August 25, 2026 in Denver District Court, alleging years of repeated delays connecting electrical service to its Denver residential projects. The company says the delays triggered loan defaults, foreclosure proceedings, and buyers walking away after losing financing.

redT Isn’t the Only One
The story found the same pattern playing out across Colorado:
- A Denver accessory-dwelling-unit developer waited five months for a power line relocation that Xcel crews finished in a matter of hours.
- A bottling plant planned near Denver International Airport was scrapped entirely after repeated attempts to get power to the site failed, taking hundreds of potential jobs to Colorado Springs Utilities instead.
- Public Utilities Commission staff have logged the same complaints from other large-load customers: long waits, inconsistent communication, and little clarity about where a project stands in Xcel’s queue.
Xcel has pointed to a surge in large-load service requests (18 in 2024, compared with two or three a year previously) along with staffing shortages as contributing factors.
